Martin

Martin “Marty” King has Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Economics from the University of Calgary. His work experience spans being an Economist at the Bank of Canada in Ottawa from 1990 to 1993, and at the National Energy Board in Calgary from 1993 to 1997. From 1997 to 2018 he was with FirstEnergy Capital Corp., later GMP FirstEnergy, in Calgary, where he eventually served as Director of Institutional Research and was responsible for the analysis, modeling and price forecasts of the crude oil and natural gas markets. He is currently a senior analyst with RBN Energy LLC, a Houston-based energy consultancy.

Headwinds in Every Direction - Government Relations for Oil & Gas in 2023

Featuring Guest Speaker: Tim Moro, Vice President, Hill + Knowlton Strategies 

 

About the Speaker:

Tim has more than 30 years of business experience, working extensively government relations, communications and market research.  The challenges and opportunities of the energy sector have been the primary focus of his career.  Tim has worked for energy industry players across Canada and the United States and continues this focus at Hill + Knowlton Strategies taking on assignments for clients in the oil and gas, pipeline and electricity sectors.  

Tim’s agency experience includes being Managing Partner at Cohn & Wolfe, Senior Vice President at Ipsos and Vice President at the Angus Reid Group.  Tim’s clients in these roles cover the full spectrum of the energy sector including conventional and renewable electricity generation companies, electricity transmission and distribution companies, electricity retailers, natural gas utilities, upstream and downstream oil and gas companies, pipeline transportation companies, energy industry associations, industry regulators and government energy departments.  Before moving to roles with consulting firms, Tim worked for the Government of Canada and at TransAlta.

Tim holds a BA (first class) from the University of Victoria and a MA in Political Science from the University of Calgary.  His academic background includes studies in economics, psychology and sociology. 

Tim frequently lends his experience to non-profits and is currently on the Board of Calgary Counselling Centre and recently ended completed terms on the Board of Discovery House (7 years) and the Public and Government Affairs Strategic Advisory Committee of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce (5 years).

Improving commodity prices have driven significant MA&D activity over the last two years.  Strengthening business fundamentals, changes in capital availability and commodity price volatility have led to creative deal structures in proposed and consummated transactions.  These deal structures have been used to facilitate sizeable acquisitions, increase cash consideration and bridge value gaps between buyers and sellers. Please join us for a discussion on the MA&D market backdrop and creative structures that have been utilized to get deals across the finish line.

 About the Speaker:

Chris is a Managing Director in RBC Capital Markets’ Global Energy Investment Banking Group.  He has spent the last 15 years in investment banking and has coverage responsibilities for a broad range of domestic oil and gas producers with experience that includes numerous MA&D transactions, equity and debt offerings and strategic advisory mandates.  Prior to pursuing his MBA, Chris worked for Colt Engineering as a mechanical engineer on the Talisman / Colt Prime Alliance.  Chris holds a Master of Business Administration from the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto and is a CFA Charterholder.

Tristan is President and CEO of The Explorers and Producers Association of Canada (EPAC), a national advocacy group representing Canada’s energy producers. With over 100 member companies producing a large proportion of the nation’s hydrocarbon endowment, members spend billions of dollars annually across the country producing oil, natural gas, and renewables. Members employ more than 50,000 people in every province and territory. 

Tristan is a leading advocate for the Canadian energy industry with governments, regulators, the news media and general public. Previously he was Senior Vice President with one of the nation’s largest energy regulators and has worked for a several multinational energy companies. He holds a Ph.D., LL.M., LL.B. and other degrees related to natural resource management, law, environmental science and economic history.
